Alle Hilde-elever har hørt det før, men en god ting kan ikke sies for ofte:
Husk kontakt med knærne når dere gjør shimmy! "Daffe" knær gjør det vanskelig å lage en stor, løs og avslappet shimmy.

I had a student in class today. She knows anatomy well. Today she managed for the first time to connect to, and feel muscles that she hasn't felt in the past! Even though her head has understood what to do, her body hasn't really felt how it works earlier. This is something I see in many students: the head lives in it's own sphere, and the body lives in another sphere, and there might not be a connection between the two. But for me, the contact between the two is what belly dance is all about, to feel what happens inside the body. It will always be visible in the movements if there is a contact between head and body, or if there isn't. The contact adds a certain quality and grounding to the movement.
All my students have heard it many times before, but a good thing can never be repeated too much:
Remember to keep contact with your knees when you do the shimmy! "Dead" knees will make it very hard to make a big, relaxed and loose shimmy.
